FAQ

Coaches ask. Straight answers.

What is PlayCaller Pro?

PlayCaller Pro is a game-day operating system for football staffs: a digital call sheet for calling plays, three-tap live stat logging, player credits, opponent scouting with tendencies, side-split game plans for the OC and DC, practice scripts, a depth chart, and printable wristband cards and call sheets — all in one app that runs right in your tablet, iPad, or phone browser.

Who built PlayCaller Pro?

Coach Matthew Kelly — a football coach with 20+ years of coaching experience in Stark County, Ohio. He built it for his own staff's sideline first, then opened it up to other programs. It's published by Stalwart Mind Solutions, LLC.

Does it work on a tablet or phone on the sideline?

Yes. Every screen is built for a tablet, iPad, or phone on the sideline in the rain — most coaches run it on a tablet. Play cards are big tap targets, logging a result takes three taps, and the whole staff sees the same game state live — head coach, coordinators, and assistants each get their own view.

What happens if we lose cell signal or Wi-Fi on the sideline?

Straight answer: PlayCaller Pro is a web app and needs a connection to save a play — there's no offline mode. Taps show up instantly on your screen, but if one can't reach the server it's undone and you get an error, so you know to re-tap it instead of losing it silently. While the connection is down the header shows "Reconnecting", and the moment you're back online (or you bring the app back to the front) it pulls the full game state again so every device on the staff is caught up. Your playbook and printed wristbands and call sheets work no matter what.

Can my assistant log stats while I call plays?

Yes — that is the core workflow. The coordinator taps a play to send it to the assistant's queue; the assistant taps the yards (and optionally the ball carrier or receiver) when the play is dead. The coordinator never stops coaching, and the results stream back instantly.

What levels is it for?

Youth, middle school, freshman, JV, varsity, and semi-pro and adult teams — anywhere a staff calls plays and wants to know what's working. The logging is level-neutral (rough yards, success or not), and the game rules are set per team: high school (NFHS, with state-specific overtime like Ohio's OHSAA), college, or pro.

Can our freshman, JV and varsity staffs all use it under one program?

Yes. Each squad gets its own team — its own playbook, roster, games, and staff logins — so the JV staff never steps on the varsity plan. We link the freshman and JV teams under your varsity so they're covered by the varsity's plan at no extra charge, and the varsity head coach handles billing for all of them. Just email us which teams to link.

Do offense and defense get separate game plans?

Yes. The offensive coordinator owns the offensive plan and scouting on the opponent's defense; the defensive coordinator owns the defensive plan and scouting on the opponent's offense. Each side can view the other read-only, and the head coach can edit everything. Printing supports all, offense-only, or defense-only.

Does it track individual player stats?

Yes. When logging a play you can tap who carried, who threw, and who caught — the QB is filled in automatically from your depth chart. Rushing, receiving, and passing lines build themselves into the game and season reports. Defensive tackles, TFLs, sacks, INTs and more are tracked per player too.

Can it print wristband cards and call sheets?

Yes. Numbered wristband inserts, color-coded call sheets, scouting one-pagers, practice scripts, depth charts, and full game reports all print straight from the app, matched to your team colors and logo.

How much does PlayCaller Pro cost?

Free to start — create your team and explore a complete 10-week sample season before entering a single play. Free includes the playbook, wristbands, call sheets, live play calling with one-tap undo and full play editing, down & distance plus punt and field-goal distances, the current-game report, and a starters depth chart, for one coach. The Coordinator plan is $349 per year and adds the full season schedule, season reports, opponent scouting, practice scripts, the full multi-deep depth chart with personnel packages, your own team colors and logo across the app and prints (no PlayCaller mark), and three coach seats. The Program plan is $999 per year and adds unlimited coach seats, per-player stat tracking, high-detail game tracking, and a live broadcast — a public fan board plus a separate media press link with a full live box score. Plans run 365 days from purchase, and schools can pay by card, ACH, invoice with a PO number, or check.

What is the Founding Coaches offer?

Schools, semi-pro, youth and club programs can apply for a Founding Coaches spot. Coach Kelly approves each program. The first 10 approved programs get their first season free, then 20% off for life: Program at $799/yr instead of $999, Coordinator at $279/yr instead of $349 — locked as long as you stay a customer. It's capped by count, not a date: when 10 programs are approved, it closes.

How does a school pay?

Schools pay how schools pay: by card or ACH online, by a net-30 invoice with your PO number on it (payable by card or ACH), or by check to Stalwart Mind Solutions, LLC. Booster clubs are welcome to pay, and a W-9 is available on request. Your plan runs 365 days from the day you pay, with a 30-day money-back guarantee. The head coach can send the invoice straight to the AD or bookkeeper from the app, or email mkelly@stalwartmind.com.

Is our team and player data private?

Yes. What's stored: your playbook, game plans, scouting, games and play-by-play logs, your roster (player names, numbers, positions), depth chart, practice scripts, and your staff's logins. Every record belongs to your team, and the database itself only lets signed-in staff on that team read or change it — another school can't see it. Within your staff, roles control who can edit what (for example the OC owns the offensive plan, the DC the defensive plan). Nothing is public unless you turn on the live broadcast and share its code. Our small support team can access accounts to help when you ask.

How long does setup take?

About two minutes to create your team — you get a full starter offensive and defensive playbook and a complete 10-week sample season to explore right away. Swapping in your own plays is the only real work: edit the starter plays, add your own, or import a spreadsheet (CSV). Most staffs are ready for a scrimmage the same week.
